"Freshman year, the Honors Program was an eye opening experience. The freshman classes were taught by some of the most amazing and interesting individuals on campus. Having the privilege to learn from them was a blessing. The people that I have met through the Honors Program have been the brightest and most intellectually stimulating people. Many of my best friends are honors students.
Sophomore and junior years, I did research with Professor Ostafin in the Chemical Engineering department. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to learn real lab experience, as well as delve into the abyss of engineering. My research was in the field of drug targeting. It consisted of using calcium-based shells 100nm large and determining the diffusion rate of various chemicals through the walls. It was wonderful to be able to apply what I had learned in the classroom to research that will someday result in a new company and a method that could revolutionize medicine. Research gave me the opportunity to get my name on papers and to form a relationship with a professor, which is priceless.
"All of my professors have genuinely cared about the students and have been more than willing to aid me both in and out of the classroom. I have found that no one has the mentality that something is impossible. There is always a way. They will do anything to help you find that way, no matter what the challenge is."
