Author: Jillian Snyder

Name: Dylan Taylor

Major(s): Preprofessional Studies and English
Research Location: Questa, NM

Dylan engaged in a public research health project where he studied a diabetes wellness group that promoted rural resilience. He spent time in Questa, NM the previous summer and was struck by the prevalence of diabetes in a rural town, without fast food and in the midst of the mountains and nature. Dylan wanted to see how a group could be effective in inspiring lifestyle changes.

Dylan says, "I plan to go to medical school to practice rural health, so this experience was directly in line with what I want to do. It reaffirmed my aspirations, and also enlightened me to present challenges and promises in rural communities. It specifically made me interested in food access and the harm that dollar stores might have on these communities."
