Mathilda Noone Stream Research

Mathilda Noone

Major: Environmental Science and Global Affairs
Research Location: South Bend, IN

Mathilda spent summer working in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Tank studying biogeochemistry and stream ecology. The key themes of the research performed in this lab are the biogeochemistry of streams and rivers, the influence of agricultural land use and conservation on streams, stream restoration, and using experiments to quantify stream transport at ND-LEEF, or the Notre Dame Linked Experimental Ecosystem Facility.

Mathilda says, "This experience helped me grow as a scholar in that I had the opportunity to take the learning from all of my classes and apply it to research in the real world. While many of my courses have had lab components, I found it much more enriching to perform research in a lab and work with Ph.D. students who have valuable experiences that I was able to learn from. My work over the summer taught me to be curious about the world around me and how to investigate the natural world given the tools that Notre Dame has provided me with over the years."
