Elsa Barron Receives the S.N. Bose Scholarship

Elsa Barron, a rising sophomore in the Glynn Family Honors Program, received the S.N. Bose Scholarship for study in Bangalore,India, this summer at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). IISc is supported by Winstep Forward and the Indian government via IUSSTF, the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum based at the Fulbright House in New Delhi. Elsa is a biological sciences major, and she will be working on a project considering the role of microtubules and mitochondria in cell division in yeast. She will also be in Nepal for 2 weeks with the Madrasa Discourses Program, a part of Notre Dame's Contending Modernities Project. This project involves discussions with Islamic leaders from Indian and Pakistan on modern advances in technology and thought and how they fit into the Islamic Church.…

Dr. Claudia Polini Appointed Glynn Family Honors Professor of Mathematics

Dr. Claudia Polini, a distinguished member of the Notre Dame Mathematics faculty, has been appointed the Glynn Family Honors Collegiate Professor of Mathematics for a three-year term. 

Prof. Polini is a world-renowned scholar in the area of commutative algebra and its interactions with algebraic geometry, having received her PhD from Rutgers University in 1995. Her work uncovers the properties of systems of polynomial equations associated with complex shapes in multi-dimensional spaces. These findings have applications in robotics, statistics and 3D design imaging, to name but a few examples. She also currently serves as the director for the Center of Mathematics at Notre Dame.…

Glynn Scholar Abby Davis Named 2016 Valedictorian

Abby Davis, a political science major from Avon Lake, Ohio, has been named valedictorian of the 2016 University of Notre Dame graduating class. A member of the Glynn Family Honors Program and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Davis is also a Hesburgh-Yusko Scholar and has a 3.99 cumulative grade point average. She will graduate with minors in philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) and Russian.
